NHAI Sets Up Dedicated Cell to Review Detailed Project Report

Overview

To enhance the construction quality, cost efficiency, and timely completion of National Highway projects, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has established a Detailed Project Report (DPR) cell at its headquarters in New Delhi.

Purpose and Function

The newly established DPR cell is tasked with providing expert inputs and comprehensive monitoring of DPRs for National Highway projects. This initiative aims to standardize the review process, ensuring the creation and evaluation of high-quality DPRs before project implementation.

Components of a DPR

A DPR is crucial for the successful execution of National Highway projects, encompassing various surveys, investigations, and designs. The DPR cell will focus on finalizing parameters for all highway components, including highways and structures, adhering to Indian Roads Congress (IRC) specifications and standards.

Team Composition

The DPR cell comprises around 40 professionals, including Principal DPR Experts and specialists in various domains such as:

• Road Safety
• Traffic
• Land Acquisition
• Bridges
• Tunnels
• Geotechnical Engineering
• Senior Highway Engineering
• Forest Conservation

Roles and Responsibilities

These experts will develop mechanisms and monitoring systems to ensure consistent review processes throughout the DPR project lifecycle. Their responsibilities include:

• Analyzing bid documents and technical schedules
• Providing cost estimates based on design features
• Planning pre-construction activities
• Integrating projects with the Highway Information Model Software (HIMS)

Additionally, cell officials will conduct site visits to assess proposals by DPR and design consultants, recommending innovative practices to improve project quality.
